10 Powerful Tools To Make Twitter Work For You

Getting hooked on Twitter isn’t that easy. Yet, once you have seen what value the Social Network can deliver, sticking with it and exploring it further becomes very powerful. Personally, I am using Twitter daily to stay in touch with a wide range of people and for building a network around the topics that interest me.

I also found it to be a great amplifier of my thoughts. It helps to get feedback on ideas quickly and improve them with the help of others. Of course Twitter wouldn’t be as powerful as it is without the great range of Tools out there. Here are 10 of my favorite ones to make the most of it.

Buffer – Get 200% More Clicks On Tweets

Very often, I am reading a lot of great articles late at night. Tweeting these great finds then has very little effect and puts my Tweets to waste. By adding everything I find to my Buffer, the Tweets are scheduled at optimal times, well spaced out over the day. This makes it very easy to Tweet more frequently and keep my followers posted. Through this optimal timing Buffer gives you over 200% more clicks, retweets and reach than non-buffered Tweets.

Best Bit

You can add Tweets to your Buffer from any website and even Twitter.com with the browser extensions (Chrome, Safari or Firefox).

Parrotfish – Rich content display right inside Twitter.com

This is a Tool I have only very recently discovered. It allows you to display full and rich content right inside Twitter.com. With the installation of the Chrome extension, you can read full posts without having to leave Twitter.com at all. I believe this is a great way of getting a taste as of whether the piece of content will be worth reading or not. You can also go and grab the full version for any website if you want.

Best Bit

There is an InstaPaper button integrated into the App too, so you can save the most promising posts without having to leave Twitter.

Rapportive – Get hooked on Twitter via email

One of the biggest problems for me was to get started on Twitter. Here, Rapportive can help a great deal I believe. It is an extension that hooks right into your Gmail account. Whenever you receive an email from someone, you can see their past Tweets and you can reply right from there. This was a great way to get a conversation going more casually and see the power of Twitter. I also love to use Rapportive to learn more about a person before emailing them.

Best Bit

What I like the most about Rapportive is that it turns Gmail into a full Twitter client, where you can perform normal Tweets, @replies and retweets.

KeepStream – Build beautiful collections of Tweets

Another amazing tool that I started to use frequently is called KeepStream. It allows you to pull in certain Tweets and make a customised collection out of it. I believe it is a great way to capture the best quotes around a conference or other online or offline event. With simple drag and drop you can create these posts very easily. Also, it offers you to take tweets from your own stream, searches, or hashtags, which you can save too.

Best Bit

What I like best about KeepStream is that you are able to embed these collections on your blog and turn it into a great piece of content.

Klout for Chrome – Learn who is most influential

Klout in itself is a fantastic way to find out who is influential in certain topics and how well connected a person is. Of course, it is not a perfect system, but so far, I was always quite happy with the results I had gotten. The extension for Chrome allows you to show the Klout score of each person in your Twitter stream and helps you to know which person you should be talking to the most.

Best Bit

You can use this to check your lists according to influential people or even build your lists around them.

Formulists – Building Twitter Lists

Formulists is a fantastic tool to build your lists on auto-pilot. Building lists is a crucial part to any Twitter experience I believe. It allows you to keep track of a closer circle of friends, despite your network growing and turning more widespread. You can setup certain terms that should trigger to put someone on a list. This could be a retweet, mention or a following. I found Formulists to help me do this efficiently and intelligently.

Best Bit

What I like best is that you can customize and even combine existing lists right from inside Formulists.

Twylah – Get more out of your Tweets

Twylah is a fantastic way to prolong the life of your Tweets. Normally, your Tweets would vanish into the ether a few minutes after being posted. With Twylah, their power is captured way longer on a new and beautiful brand page for your Tweets. From there you can browse through the different categories you are Tweeting about and find past Tweets. This is one of those Apps you just have to try and see for yourself.

Best Bit

What I love about Twylah is a function called Power Tweet, which allows you to post Tweets that trigger 4 times more engagement, because relevant and related content is clustered around it.

TwitSprout – A great Twitter analytics dashboard

Although there are many different Twitter analytics dashboards out there TwitSprout is a fantastic solution. All your stats are conveniently displayed on one page. You can compare the gain in followers, retweets and mentions with a handy overlay function and see whether any of the growth factors are out of line.

Best Bit

What I like best about TwitSprout is frankly the beautiful design of the page. It is even publicly hosted and you can share it with your friends.

Mentionmapp – Who is in your closest network?

This is a wonderful tool that I discovered a while back, but never checked out properly. All you do is put any username in and see who that person is talking to the most. Then you can go ahead and move from user to user and see their network unfold visually right in front of your eyes. It is a very interesting journey through the Twituniverse and a great way to find and follow new people.

Best Bit

What I like best is that you can type in any new username after already having submitted one and it will try and connect it to the existing map.

StrawberryJ.am – Make reading your Tweets easier

The last Tool I want to introduce you to is called StrawberryJ.am. It is a new approach to Twitter that orders all of your Tweets by most mentioned. It then displays them for you in this new order so you can conveniently see what the top news from your stream are. You can even go and search lists and hashtags according to these most mentioned Tweets, definitely a great time saver I believe.

Best Bit

What I like best about this App is that you are able to subscribe to a daily digest email that tells you about the top news from your stream.
