Before and After Face Dissolve Effect
- Software used: Adobe Photoshop CS6
- Time: 2 – 2:30 hrs
STEP 1: Create a New Document
Open a New Document ( File > New ) with a resolution of width – 1500 pixels, height – 1025 pixels.
STEP 2: Add Background
First of all we are going to import an image for our background. You can get this image from the following Link. Since the resolution of this particular image is less than the resolution of the document size. I have used Transform Tool Ctrl + T so that the image can be adjusted as per the resolution of our document.
STEP 3: Add one more image and reduce the Opacity
Import another image for background from the following Link. Adjust the size of the image with the help of Transform tool Ctrl + T and reduce its Opacity to 50%.
STEP 4: Select brush to make the Blue Glow
Select a soft round brush with the settings shown below to make a Blue Glow and rename this layer as brush stroke.
STEP 5: Select the Color
Apply the following color value as shown in the image below, in order to get the blue color. You can also choose any other color as per your wish.
STEP 6: Now make a Brush Stroke
Simply click the brush on your image and you will get a result something similar to this.
STEP 7: Import the image of our Character
Bring the image of your character from the following Link and place it accordingly. Rename this layer as face.
STEP 8: Adjust and reduce the Opacity
In order to blend the image of our character with the Background, reduce the opacity to 40%.
STEP 9: Make one more copy and click Layer Mask
Duplicate Ctrl + J the face layer and click on Layer Mask. Also increase the opacity of this layer to 100%.
STEP 10: Make brush stroke on layer mast with black Color Brush
Make few brush strokes on the layer mask with a black color brush or you can also use Pen tool “P”. Make these stroke something similar to the stokes that are shown in the image below.
STEP 11: Import the Tossing Paint image and Desaturate it
Import the tossing paint image and extract it from the background simply with the help of any selection tool and Desaturate ( Image > Adjustments > Desaturate ) it. Place the image as shown in the image below. You can get this image from the following link
STEP 12: Color Correct the Image
Make some color correction in our tossing paint image. Simply go to Image > Adjustments > Selective Color and apply the following settings as shown below.
STEP 13: Level Adjustment
Also make some adjustments with the help of Levels Image > Adjustments > Levels and the following settings as in the image.
STEP 14: Using Smudge Tool Merge the Paint with Face
With the following settings of Smudge tool, it’s time to merge our tossing paint image with our face image. You can get a result something similar to this.
STEP 15: Repeat-the-same-process-with-all-the-color-tossing-layers
You can also use get some more tossing images from the following Link or you can use the previous tossing image and simply Rotate it with the help of Transform Tool Ctrl + T. Repeat the same process with all the color tossing layers and you may get a result something similar to this.
STEP 16: Group-all-the-layers
Now we are going to bring all the layers under one Group Ctrl + G.
STEP 17: Duplicate group and ungroup and merge it
Now its time to Duplicate Ctrl + J the group and Ungroup them. You can Ungroup the group by simply right clicking on the group and by selecting Ungroup layers as shown below. We are doing this so that we can get a single layer of the complete effect to work on. And finally merge all the ungrouped layers by simply hitting Ctrl + E on your keyboard.
STEP 18: Apply Gaussian Blur
Duplicate Ctrl + J the merge layer and apply Gaussian Blur ( Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur ) to it with a value of 6 pixels.
STEP 19: Change Blending Mode and Opacity
Change the Blending Mode of the duplicated layer to Lighten and reduce its Opacity to 60%. And you will get an effect something similar to this.
STEP 20: Color Correction
Finally to give our face dissolve effect one more cool look, we are going to do some color correction to it. To do so, we are going to add an adjustment layer of Color Balance ( Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance ) in it with the following values and your Final Output is ready.
